Information Search Skills Tips

To increase relevance of information that is retrieved when searching on the Internet, use quotations marks around phrases such as: "rock band" or "civil engineering".

To find pertinent information quickly in a nonfiction book, look for topics that are listed in alphabetic order in the index located at the back of the book.

Thesaurus

A Good Resource to Strengthen Writing

Writing can be enhanced by broadening and fine-tuning vocabulary with a thesaurus.

A thesaurus contains lists of words that are organized by related meanings.  A thesaurus can be accessed in book format or from online sources.

For example, a thesaurus listing for the word, eventful, includes these word options: memorable, and notable.
