What is gluten?
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, some oats, and rye.

How will I know if a product is gluten-free?
If a food product does not list wheat, barley, oats, or rye in the ingredient list and the food is not made in the same facility with other gluten-containing products the food would be considered gluten-free. If the food manufacturer makes an allergen statement and gluten containing ingredients are not listed that food would be considered gluten-free. Please check out the Gluten-Free Daily Menu.

Are there FDA regulations regarding gluten-free labeling?
Not at this time but the guidelines set as of 2007 say that a food labeled gluten-free should not contain more than 20 parts per million of gluten.

Does the Kennel guarantee the products listed on the gluten-free menu are gluten-free?
No. Unfortunately, it is not possible for the Kennel to guarantee any meal or product completely gluten-free, because food manufacturers recipes and sources of ingredients may change from time to time without notice. The ingredients in all of the items listed have been checked carefully, and in some cases our food manufacturers were called for clarification on ingredients used in their products.

Should my child check the labels on the food they purchase in the Kennel?
It is always best to have your child be his/her best self monitor. They should continue to check labels for allergenic ingredients and let the Kennel know right away if they notice a change. We understand how difficult it can be finding foods that meet the requirements of a restricted diet, and we will continue to look for ways to meet the dietary needs of the students at OIS.
