Common Core (CC) Math 8 is a grade-level math course and prepares students to take future higher level math courses.  Students will not only learn the math standards but will continue to develop higher order thinking skills and build fluency around the  8 mathematical practices.  This course covers all of the 8th grade California State Math Standards. Key areas of focus in CC8 Math include the number sense, expressions and equations, functions, geometry and statistics and probability.

 

CC8/Algebra Accelerated is an accelerated class covering Algebra 1 and some CC8 California State Math Standards. Students successfully completing CC8/Algebra Accelerated will progress to Geometry. Algebra 1 topics include: number and quantity, functions, algebraic expressions, statistics and probability.

 

Geometry course is a double accelerated pathway course offered for advanced mathematics students. The course is not offered at OIS, however is offered for the students who qualify to take it at Miramonte High School. 

The fundamental purpose of the Geometry course is to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in the middle grades. This course includes content standards from the conceptual categories of Congruence, Similarity, Right Triangles and Trigonometry, Circles, Expressing Geometric Properties with Equations, Geometric Measurement and Dimension, Conditional Probability, Rules of Probability and Using Probability and Statistics. Through the application of the Standards for Mathematical Practice, students will increasingly engage with the subject matter and grow in mathematical maturity and expertise.
