Green Team

The OIS Green Team is a dedicated group of middle school students, staff, and parents committed to making our campus and community more environmentally sustainable.

We believe that by working together and practicing the 4 R's—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot (Compost)—we can foster a greener, healthier learning environment and inspire long-lasting change.

What We Do

The Green Team is where ideas turn into action! We focus on projects that reduce our school’s environmental footprint and educate our peers on becoming lifelong environmental stewards. Our initiatives often include:
  • Waste Diversion: We manage and monitor the school's 3-Bin System (landfill, recycling, and compost) during lunch and school events to ensure proper sorting and reduce contamination.
  • Composting Program: We actively collect food scraps and garden waste to create nutrient-rich compost for our school garden.
  • Energy Conservation: We conduct "Energy Audits" to find opportunities for saving electricity (like turning off lights and computers) and promote smart energy habits across campus.
  • School Garden: We maintain our school garden, using it as an outdoor classroom to learn about local ecosystems and sustainable food practices.
  • Awareness Campaigns: We create announcements, posters, and events (like Earth Week) to educate our fellow students on critical topics like water conservation and zero-waste lunches.
