Mathcounts
MATHCOUNTS is a national program that aims to inspire excellence, confidence and curiosity in middle school students through fun and challenging math activities. At OIS, all students in grades 6, 7, & 8 who love math are invited to participate in this extracurricular enrichment program.
Problems in the MATHCOUNTS curriculum typically involve multiple steps to solve, and draw on all math topics taught in middle school. Competitions include both written and oral problems, and both individual and team formats.

Competitions are held within the school in January, and against other schools in the region in February. The California State Competition is in late March, and Nationals are in May.
The MATHCOUNTS coach is OIS math teacher Lisa Rudolph. For more information, email Lisa Rudolph. Information about the national program is available at the MATHCOUNTS website.
